Cape-May
is the country's "Oldest Seashore Resort." It is located in Cape May County, which is a peninsula on the southernmost tip of New Jersey (the Southern Shore Region) between the Atlantic Ocean and the Delaware Bay. Several barrier islands stretch along the eastern edge of Cape May County, forming the oceanfront resort towns of Cape May, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Cape May Point and Wildwood. Victorian Cape May has been welcoming visitors for more than a century. With over 600 authentically restored and preserved Victorian structures, Cape May is a National Historic Landmark City, only one of five in the nation. This designation requires that the community retain all structures in their original form and design and will insure that Cape May will remain within the architectural guidelines of the Victorian era. It has also achieved national recognition as one of the "Best Bed & Breakfast Inn Resorts" in the country. The ambiance of Victorian architecture, intricate gingerbread trim, old-time gas lights, colorful stained glass and oceanside promenade offers a picture postcard snapshot of the past. Tours of the historic district and many of the Victorian Inns are scheduled daily through the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts. Attractions in the area include the Cape May Lighthouse, Historic Cold Spring Village, an annual Tulip Festival every spring, Victorian Week in the fall and Christmas in Cape May, which begins after Thanksgiving each year.

The southeastern tip of New Jersey , near Cape May, has a humid subtropical climate with maritime influences. Continental and oceanic influences battle for dominance in the weather patterns on a daily to weekly bases. The coastal zone generally has warmer temperatures than the interior regions in winter. Sea breezes play a major role in the climate, and offer a cooling effect on hot summer days. Coastal storms, often characterized as nor'easters, are most frequent between October and April. These storms bring strong winds and heavy rains. Rarely does a winter go by without at least one significant coastal storm. Tropical storms and hurricanes are also a special concern along the coast, although plenty of warning is given for these types of storms.
